Traffic? Where is this traffic???
« on: June 03, 2010, 12:09:58 AM »
There is always someone with a NEW way--- A NEW Ebook on how to get millions of hits.

I am a firm believer in Don's teaching me that ORGANIC traffic is the best and PPC is going to hit your pocket really hard until you figure it out. I am also a subscriber to the FACT that the more content you have on the web pointing to the site that you want/need traffic at, is easy to get if you back link and point to it from a million different places. I see so many posts that people talk about EZA and the traffic they get from there. Do these people just not get the fact that EZA is losing traffic to many other directories and the fact that many sites on the web get a lot more targeted traffic then EZA....

How about a Market Crush contest for traffic???? Build a NEW site with any niche and see who can get the most organic traffic to it in 90 days. I am sure it would be an interesting contest to say the least....
Link Racer- Back links--Yeah I am back with more sites and better programming so no one can harm this network now! www.thelinkracer.com

If you know what you're doing, PPC can be very effective, but it has one major flaw - for all the money spent, regardless of what you earned back, there's zero residual benefit to it. The minute you stop, you're out of business...

Over the long term, I think targeted, organic traffic is a much better investment of your time today, because everything you're doing keeps driving traffic to your sales page for damn near ever. To me it doesn't matter if I don't see an immediate result - in time, it will bring traffic.

For someone new, organic traffic is great because you've usually got more time than money anyways, so if you're patient about it, you can focus on traffic generation and take advantage of its future payback.

I tell my students that I only use free traffic generation methods and more times than not, they're amazed.  It's crazy how they come to me thinking they have to pay to get traffic or whatever they're doing won't work.  Where do they get it from?  The gurus?

Sometimes I wanna kick some guru ass.

I registered AntiGuruGirl.com last night, on the prodding of one of my students.  LOL

Uh, went off topic a bit there...sry.   :o

When I used to write copy for sales letters more than doing anything else, one of the hardest things to do was help new clients understand that if they stopped sending letters, their sales would stop. And in order to keep making money, they would have to keep advertising.

I have only done a few paid traffic campaigns, with marginal success at best. And it just became for me anyway, a way that did not bring me the most profit but took the most amount of time to manage.

I think you are right about learning this idea from gurus. It seems a common marketing comeon is the idea that traffic is instant as opposed to waiting to rank for that keyword. Notwithstanding that you can rank for a huge variety of keyword phrases with your content written with LSI in mind. But your adwords ads will never display for any other phrase than what you tell them to display. If you know everything (I sure don't) this idea is great. But if you don't (like me) and sort through your stats program you will find an amazing number of keyword phrases folks have found your page through.

I th ik though that the idea of instant results is very appealing to many folks online and that is why it sells so many programs and packages.

I think that there is a lot to learn if you want to use PPC and you have to have a budget that you can use to experiment with in order to find the profitable campaigns.

If you start out with organic traffic then once you have something that is converting well, you can try throwing some PPC traffic at it and you have less of a chance of losing money because you will already know what each visitor is worth.

I was just told as recently as today that to learn PPC campaigns, it will take forever and a day, and I should hire someone to set one up for me to generate more traffic to my site.

I'm glad I read this thread.

well, I must appreciate the promise is made. Really, it would be awesome if a newborn website starts getting organic traffic just within 90 days. I am really curious to go for the e-book and wondering to know whether you have emphasized on the SEO, SMO or link building services.

well for me its better to start using free methods to generate traffic, atleast if you stop you have no regrets.
Start your own web hosting - sell hosting and earn residual income - with no investment.

I agree with Mike

You got two choices

Give you up money for instant traffic (like Mike said, stops coming when you stop paying).  I ran my business for 4 years like this thinking it was great).  You also give up time since you have to make sure you are not wasting money on keywords.

Give up a little more time now and get traffic for life.  There are soo many free ways of traffic out there which takes very little work
- Articles (which is the most popular)
- Videos
- Classifieds
- Question/Answer websites
- Document Sites
- Blog Commenting
- Forum Marketing
- File sharing websites
- Niche market websites (Example is Rotten Tomatoe in the movie market)
- Social Bookmarking
- Social Media (which I dont think is worth it, since you can get a better ROI on the rest)

You need to have multiple sources of everything including traffic.

Cheers
Mukul

Yes I would love to be organic traffic driven but it's always been a bit elusive for me. I must be learning from the wrong text books. On July 1 I released a new business site with a race betting program and that is my very first paid subscription site. If it wasn't for the relatively big ticket price ($250AUD) per subscriber it would be running at a big loss instead of having about a 10:1 margin (ie $25-$30 per subcriber at the moment)over advertising costs on Google adword-brrr!
As stipulated in this forum earlier, once you stop PPC and if you are PPC reliant, your business growth ceases. :-[
