There was a thread going on exactly 2 years ago at another popular red IM forum.

Someone decided to take an obscure keyword phrase and see how fast and high they could rank for it.

Eventually several of us jumped onboard and made it a contest to see who could ranke highest and/or fastest.

The keyword phrase was, "Which brand of popcorn pops the most."

Michael Oksa made a very interesting post in that thread which has pretty much verified the effectivenes of his crystal ball. LOL

Ok, you guys are in luck. I just polished off my crystal ball.
Here's what it foresees...

A huge spike in the number of searches for popcorn related
keywords, which are being caused by this post. That in turn
will get other marketers to take notice. Even though these
spikes in search queries may be artificially high, less savvy
marketers won't notice - they will just se the trend going up.

Whew! Ok, here's where it gets good. Guess who the "established"
marketers in the niche will be? Yep! Warriors who decided to
take action just to see what would happen.

And the crystal ball tells no lies.

Well, it is two years later, but if you do a search for that phrase, it is completely dominated by the pages we all started - except for the #1 result...which was already there prior to all this.

There were only a couple of real results for that phrase when we started and now there are dozens of pages of results!

Has 1,220,000 searches per month and some weak gaps on that front page....

Don't know what you could sell here but we wanted a random keyword...

This is a buying keyword non the less....

You know Adam, I'm not really sure.

As embarrassing as this is - I don't really check my ClickBank account too ofen...I just trust that the checks are correct. Now I'm gonna go check. LOL

OK - I went and checked and it doesn't look like I ever made a sale. I think the problem lies in the fact that the search term doesn't match the clickbank product whatsoever - so the odds were pretty bad to start with.

I can tell you this though - the article has gotten thousands of hits...too bad I couldn't find anything more appropriate to market.

You're definitely on the right track. If we could find something to market which fits the phrase then I say we go for it.
