Very little traffic after backlinking service - what should I do?

Hi Guys...


I have a site about 5 months old that was getting about 25 - 50 uniques a day, all relevant traffic. Then tried the backlinking service (which I was thrilled about by the way - very happy), but know all my traffic has haulted. I have been getting 0 - 1 hit per day.

Still listed when typing site:mysite.com, and my backlinks went from about 18 as per yahoo site explorer to 26 now with the service.

Was it that my site was too young and I shouldn't have tried this service so soon??

What can I do to bring it back??

I doubt it was the back link service, if something like that could nuke your site then you could easily do it to your competitors. It's probably just the normal fluctuations in google.

Were you tracking which pages/keywords were bringing the traffic and where they ranked?

I'm no expert, but what I would do is try to get those pages that once ranked high up to where they were once again. Or, look in your stats and see what pages the traffic is coming to and then get backlinks to those pages to push them higher in the SERPS.

Thanks for the video Lee. I'm going to do what you suggested - lookup the recent keyword activity for the past 2 months and go from there.

I'm thinking, my site was probably too new to blast 2500+ links to it in such a short period of time, especially since I was doing little backlinking myself. It's ok. Lesson Learned.

I'm very happy with the service though - and would try again on an older site.

You probably need to just be patient and continue to (increase) your work on building links. There are always ups and downs with this. Jon Leger had a post that is related to this - http://jonathanleger.com/my-site-is-gone/ (I know your site is not "gone" but what he discusses there is likely related to your traffic fluctuations.)

I am happy to report my traffic came back, without doing anything.

It took 2weeks? Too long in my opinion. But I'm happy it wasn't deindexed.

Perhaps you experienced the "sandbox" for building backlinks too fast to too young of a site. My understanding is that it's a temporary drop in SERP to deter taking advantage of Google's algorithm.

google is really weird sometimes....

I have seen people buy a brand new domain today, add content and in the next week
build 4-5k backlinks to it and no sandbox no nothing, they just got up in the rankings,
dropped for 2 days and up again and stayed there...and in 1 months time they had thousands
of those links indexed.

Then you see people having a site like yours and going trough stuff like that.

As everyone else has said, this is very very normal with Google. A new site will rise in the rankings and then fall. Rise again and fall. I see this very frequently.

If you persist you'll get through the 'turbulence' and rise to heights (top 10).

I really think that this is another urband legend when it comes to Google. There's no way they can possibly find, process and index back links that quickly.
